I have spoken to American pilots who will never admit that the Israelis outfly us - the furthest they will go is to say "I wouldn't want to be up against them." It's at this point that I usually say something soothing like, "They have more experience than us - if you guys had to fly as much a they do, you;d be at least just as good." Whether it's true or not, they appreciated it. :-)
As for the jet, you bet they fixed it; for example, Israel perfected the art of fixing damaged tanks behind battle lines & sending them right back up. They can't afford not to.
