At least one DSLR has a mirror-up live sensor mode, but a bunch now have tiny video cameras in the optics path in front of the mirror to drive the LCD with. And at least one has a hinged LCD that can be used for overhead and waist level shots.
Aha! On the ones with a tiny video camera, does the video camera swing up out of the way when the mirror does?
Hinging the LCD like that is, I think, an obvious step once you can use it for preview/composing. I've seen how useful a feature it is when watching folks with non-SLR digital cameras use it. (My p&s doesn't have that feature; the LCD is fixed in place.)
