"The big scary rip in space-time at the center of our galaxy might be a daunting proposition, but it's better than the alternative: the gravity from the black hole is what keeps our galaxy coherent and keeps us from flying off into an even more desolate and empty void of nothing-y nothingness. (Spiral galaxies get that way through differing rotational velocities around a central gravitational source such as a black hole.)
