The fascinating thing about Emerson is how often (as here) he makes an important point or imparts a bit of pithy advice while being one hundred percent, provably, obviously, *wrong*, in a strictly factual sense.

What's the important point or pithy advice here? All I'm seeing is the "wrong" part. As in, "Phft! Bull-shit!" kind of wrong.
