D'Glenn isn't referring to something he did; this is a tradition of the Kingdom of Ealdomere. It started after the death of Osis, IIRC; one of his friends decided to build a scale-model viking long boat and burn it on the lake at Pennsic as a memorial. This has become a tradition, and a general purpose memorial for all the Scadians who have died, especially in the past year.
