*baffled* Why? Past generation has more money to spend on frivolities, so they do. Said habit is not to my tastes, but my tastes aren't what they're trying to satisfy.

Just guessing here, but I wonder whether the observation that "each generation seems to think it invented sex" is a factor here. (But really, until this moment I hadn't bothered to analyze the quote beyond noting that it amused me.)
