If cars shed flakes of carbon-based 'paint' they were constantly growing, that'd be one more form of pollution. Or perhaps the flakes could break down into something that would fertilize the plants alongside the road. (I'd just as soon the cars weren't shiny, to cause less glare. I've always felt like all that chrome reflecting sunlight into our eyeballs is just a step away from looking directly at the sun.)
