It sure sounds like Perrine has a cold or other nasal issues that is keeping her from smelling her food. Not sure what to do about it except wait for it to pass. But it must be bad if even heating the food doesn't work.
Odd coincidence about your teacher's death: I too found out over the weekend that a teacher I remembered fondly had passed away. In my case, it was the one who saw that I was really trying but that things would finally sink in about 6 weeks after the test, & so threw me out of her Algebra II class before she was forced to flunk me.
