The increasingly torturous definitions of sapient so as to include human and exclude everyone else was also the hallmark of mainstream AI for 40 years. Intelligent was "that thing that humans are", and humans are "those that are intelligent", and every time we taught a computer (or a chimp, or octopus, or parrot) to do something previously categorized under "intelligent", the noose tightened and the definition changed...

Wait-- chimps aren't human? I know many dogs who are smarter, more moral, and more ethical than my Congressman; are we finally going to get around to admitting that as component parts of the Universe, the only thing that makes being human "special" is the *products* of our skills and abilities?
