"Organ was always my first love, but for session playing I
found it much easier to carry a bass to work than an organ."
-- Led Zeppelin bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones (né
Baldwin) (b. 1946-01-03)
I once had the brief honour of meeting the Right Reverend Maurice Arthur Ponsonby Wood, who was a chaplain for the Marines during D-Day and led the first church service after the liberation of France, on the beach. He explained that he wanted an organ for this, so he had brought a portable one with him. "The fellow who was checking the manifest...," he said, "...one flamethrower, one Sten gun, one organ..." (opening eyes very wide) "...one organ?"
