"On some of these, the dial is cranked all the way up to 'Kirk's love interest for this episode'..." -- Hal Incandenza, 2011-09-09, describing Miss Universe national costumes

[Any readers too young to get the reference, ask an old Trekkie (who watched the original show) to explain it.]

When it comes to dishing about Miss Universe costumes, I look to Tom and Lorenzo.

When I first went through the pics my first thought was 'Why are so many of them dressed like they are about to recreate Elton John singing Crocodile Rock with the Muppets?'

Other than being appalled at Canada, my only real individual reactions were that Greece was stunning and incredibly classy, and that the SEXY CHILEAN MINER was hysterically funny, and also surprisingly touching that she dressed that way in tribute to the real miners, unlike so much of the crap that was otherwise on stage.

I liked the sexy Chilean miner, too!

I really wish I had not just read The Hunger Games because it made my brain do strange things with the costume choices.

I love the "Kirk's love interest" rating.

Upon review, my favorites (seriously) are Miss Columbia (so fun!) and Miss Egypt (so Pharoah!)
