"Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime. Long ago those who wrote our First Amendment charted a different course. They believed a society can be truly strong only when it is truly free." -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart (b. 1915-01-23, d. 1985-12-07), dissenting opinion in Ginzburg et al v. United States (1965)

If censorship is popularly accepted, then it reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself. If censorship is imposed from above, then it reflects an elite's lack of confidence that their rule can survive the public knowing what the elite is getting away with.

Huh, I know his son, also a lawyer--what a droopy nothing he is, sadly. It must be hard to have a super-famous parent in a field you then go into and do nothing in--
