Things I learned today: (a) My friends post a lot on Facebook. (b) Facebook will let you keep scrolling down for at least 400 screenfuls. (c) This takes a long time on the hardware I've got.

Things I didn't learn today: (a) The thing I logged into Facebook to check on.

I've been wondering lately ... If I delete my Facebook account, will people finally start sending me email about important and/or time-sensitive things like I keep asking, or will I simply cease to exist?

I hate Facebook and never go there. I have an account there because my husband insisted -- his students wouldn't believe he was married unless his Facebook page showed his wife *rolls eyes* -- but having it has been a real pain. People write to me there in spite of my writing, "I hate Facebook and am never here; send me e-mail if you want to reach me" in my Facebook profile.

I post a ton to FB (and G+, and five-packs to LJ), but I rarely read FB. I skim from time to time, pick up items out of the news ticker, but I also have quite a few friends on FB -- so in short, no, there's no guarantee (and little chance) that I'll see a specific item someone posts on FB, unless they tag me.

Aside from the appalling privacy issues, FB has a truly atrocious signal-to-noise ratio. Life's too short.

Facebook is a good way to let me know that something happened a few days ago that I might have been interested in. ;-)

Facebook has become a little more useful since competition with Google+ made them make their "lists" more usable. It allows me to do what I do on LJ -- have a filter of people I actually care about, so I can be "friends" with people who would be annoyed if I unfriended them for posting too much crap, but never see any of their crap.

Of course, that exacerbates the problem of someone incorrectly assuming I'll see something there for a subset of people, but oh, well.

Now if I could just set up a content filter for the one guy where I want to see everything but his right-wing political crap...

I neither like nor trust the Facebook. I've avoided it and Google+ principally becuase they have horrible leaks in their personal data. Why bring in more trouble than I can handle?

Depends on the people...

I'm not on FB and, near as I can tell, to some people I don't exist. But I'd rather not be there than appear to be there; this way inattentive people don't think I'll see something that I won't.
