That was one of my favorite little beats in statistics class over the two previous terms. I'd mention pie charts and ask, ``do you know who made pie charts famous?'' --- that is, turned them from this obscure tool to something used to communicate detailed information to non-authorities in a field. Pause a moment and then say, ``You do, you just never realized she did it.'' Got a reliable smile. (Not least because I was teaching at a community college where about half the students were in nursing programs.)
