"In a way, it seems the only response to great mystery is great mirth. And really, doesn't Easter ultimately commemorate the greatest practical joke ever pulled off? 'You thought you killed me...Ha-ha!'" -- Rosemary Hathaway, 2009-04-10 (regarding goofy Easter cakes and silly Passover songs)

[One thing that strikes me about Easter is that there are so many different ways of looking at it and talking about it. At the risk of putting off some of my less religious readers (indulge me a moment for the holiday), I dare say that for those of us who take it the most seriously, Easter is an even bigger practical joke than portrayed above (perhaps Ms. Hathaway didn't take it this far for fear of sounding 'preachy'): "You thought they killed me, but really I tricked them into killing death -- Eternal life for everyone!"]

That's a good way of putting it. Sometime when I'm feeling charitable towards my parents and have an out from havig a long theological discussion with them, I might tell them about that.
