Waiting for a background process, waiting for laundry, procrastinating on a couple of things I don't really want to face, and not sure why I'm not asleep yet ... figured I'd try this survey-thang I copied from [livejournal.com profile] cyan_blue, who got it from [livejournal.com profile] nrivkis, who got it from the Magician.

1) First teacher's name: Mrs. Byron, who later became Mrs. Riley.
2) Last words you said: "Okay, I guess I'll park on Mount st. just in case then," to a Baltimore police officer after I asked him whether Snow Emergency parking restrictions were in effect and he told me they hadn't been notified and he wasn't really sure.
3) Last song you sang: "Dream On", by Aerosmith, along to the radio.
4) Last person you hugged: Gwenna, one of my bandmates.
5) Last thing you laughed at: Something on a web page someone posted the URL of on a mailing list, but I don't remember what it was at the moment. It was a few hours ago.
6) Last time you said 'I love you': Wow, if I can't remember immediately, then it's been way too long. I think it was fifteen days ago. I need to spend more time talking to the people I say that to.
7) Last time you cried: The wee hours of Thursday morning, in response to a really moving scene in a television show (but I've forgotten what the scene was, or the show).
8) What's in your CD player: Boiled In Lead, Old Lead; Sonus, Songs and Dances of the Middle Ages; The Clash, The Clash; Wolfstone, Unleashed, and Heather Alexander, Midsummer. But none of those are what I was just listening to: in the cassette deck is Marilyn Mattie Brahen, Sweet & Spicy -- Original & Traditional Songs, which just finished, so I should put in something else. I think I'll play the pirated copy of Keepers of the Flame by the defunct (west coast) band Phoenix (not to be confused with the very much still active UK band Phoenix) ... how I wish I could obtain a legal copy of that album. As do countless other fen.
9) What colour socks are you wearing: I'm not wearing socks.
10) What's under your bed: Dust bunnies and one piece of paper under the bed in the blue room, nothing (the box spring rests directly on the floor) in the green room.
11) What time did you wake up today: I haven't woken up today. Thursday I woke at 4:00 very briefly, was awakened by pain at 7:00 and got out of bed, woke from an afternoon nap at 18:00, and haven't been back to sleep.
12) Current taste: Noticing that I need to brush my teeth. Bleah.
13) Current hair: Dark brown, not-quite-bald on top (there's fuzz), shoulder-length more or less (depending on humidity) on the sides and back, calico beard.
14) Current clothes: Slippers. Other than that I'm naked. (Decided to turn up the thermostat for a half hour or so after I took a shower. Ought to go turn it back down again.)
15) Current annoyance: The current pain in my neck is the literal pain in my neck, on the right side.
16) Current longing: Someone to curl up with and sleep next to.
17) Current desktop picture: None.
18) Current worry: Money. Lack thereof.
19) Current hate: After four minutes of thought on this question, none has come to mind.
20) Story behind your LJ username: It's one of my nicknames, a variation on both my given name and my SCA/Markland/RenFest persona name, and a login name I've used in various places when "glenn" is already taken. It's my first initial plus my middle name, which is what I go by.
21) Current favourite article of clothing: Hmm ... either my blue knee-length tunic with the asymetrical hem (I think it's roughly Hastings-period, but I'm not sure), or my brown, tiered skirt with different textures of the same colour fabric. I should sew the spots that are currently safety-pinned soon. Ask me tomorrow and I may have a different answer.
22) Favourite physical feature of the opposite sex: Mmmm ... so many to choose from ... Although they're not usually what I notice first because they're usually covered, if a woman with particularly nice shoulders and neck has her shoulders bare, I have a surprisingly strong reaction to that. Um. Maybe I should go back and change my "current longing" answer -- my lips are tingling with the thought of kissing lovely shoulders.
23) Last CD that you bought: I think that'd be the Wolgemut album that I traded a copy of the Homespun Ceilid Band CD for at Pennsic, or Gyre's self-titled album, also from Pennsic. (But I plan to pick up Peat and Barley's new CD, On the Brink, using money a friend in Texas sent me for Christmas, since that money ought to be spent on something like that instead of bills (but I'm having trouble keeping that small sum set aside, with all the important stuff I'm having trouble paying).
24) Favourite place to be: Ask me in a few hours and I'll answer differently, but right now it'd be one of the scenic overlooks on Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge mountains, looking out over the Shenandoah Valley. (Other candidates include: Nag's Head, North Carolina; Assateague Island (the national park in the Maryland part of the island); on stage with The Homespun Ceilidh Band; Baitcon; and, of course, around a campfire at Pennsic (and here's the official Pennsic site as well).
25) Least favourite place: Stuck in traffic that isn't moving.
26) Time you wake up in the morning: Any time between 3:00 and 13:00. (Yes, I know that 13:00 is no longer morning. *shrug*)
27) If you could play an instrument, what would it be: In addition to the ones I already play? Cello or viola da gamba.
28) Favourite colour: Blue. Deep, rich, vibrant blue.
29) Do you believe in an afterlife: Yes.
30) How tall are you: Six feet. Well, something like 5'11.75" the last time I checked, but that seems to be close enough. I look taller 'cause folks usually see me in 3"-4" heels.
31) Current favourite word/saying: "Everything is better with live music!" (A reference to the wording on my business card
32) Favourite book: Red Shift, by Alan Garner.
33) Favourite season: Autumn.
34) One person from your past you wish you could go back and talk to: Katharina.
35) Favourite day: Samhain.
36) Where do you want to go: Into orbit.
37) What is your career going to be like: Probably catch-as-catch-can, I fear, what with the fibromyalgia. :-(
38) How many kids do you want: Three, but that number isn't carved in stone.
39) What kind of car will you have: Whatever decade-old thing falls my way in the nick of time. At least that's been the pattern for the past few cars.
40) Type a line you remember from any book: "Repent, Harlequin," said the Ticktockman. "Get stuffed!" replied the Harlequin.
41) A random lyric: "All these places have their moments, with lovers and friends I still can recall, but although I'll often stop and think about them, in my life I love you more."
42) Identify some things surrounding your computer: Soprano recorder. DayRunner. Cassettes and CDs. Audio equipment. Bass guitar. Pair of scissors. Can of compressed air. Empty film cannisters. Travel/pocket Othello game. Whiteboard and markers. Chair. Rug. Lamp. Dictionary. Contact sheet and negatives. Road atlas.
43) What's Up: My 'wget' process has wandered off into the weeds again. Feh.

Why is it that when a needed item decides to go stubbornly missing -- the kind of missing where no matter how carefully and thoroughly you search, it won't turn up again until it's good and ready -- it's always something that you've come across five times in the past week while looking for other things?

Music:: news and commercials on the radio at the moment
Mood:: very tired
