"[...] 'some people won't respect marriage as much if just anyone can do it' is a sad basis for legislation." -- [livejournal.com profile] redbird in a reply to my QotD entry from Monday.

I just got email from my mother saying that one of my uncles was found dead in his home this morning. The uncle who was most supportive of my expressing my gender-identity (even more so than either of my parents). Like most of my extended family, I didn't see or speak to him anywhere near often enough.

I had a lot of other things in mind to write about later today. I might decide to use those to distract myself from thinking about my uncle, or I might decide I'm too distracted to write those other things.

Mood:: introspective

  1. Name five things in your fridge: Milk, Eggs, serrano peppers, olives, unexposed film.
  2. Name five things in your freezer: Stew, pizza, burritos, plastic drink-chiller shapes that I never use, exposed film waiting to be developed.
  3. Name five things under your kitchen sink: Lemme go look -- I never check there ... baking soda, glass cleaner, scouring powder, a bucket of water (no idea how long it's been there), and a few minutes ago (but not right now) my cat.
  4. Name five things around your computer: Brass floor lamp, can of compressed air, camera battery, box of CDs, flyying-insect spray.
  5. Name five things in your medicine cabinet: Well, my medicine cardboard box anyhow ... Prilosec, Ibuprofen, throat lozenges, Neurontin (expired and it doesn't do me any good, so I should throw it out 'cause it wouldn't be legal to give it away, right?), antacids, saline nasal spray.

And thanks, folks, for the sympathy comments to my previous entry. I'm reading them as they arrive.

Okay, this is a long shot, but here goes...

Is there anyone out there willing to led me a car tomorrow or give me a ride to Frederick (from Baltimore) late tomorrow afternoon? I've got a gig to get to, and my car is not going to go that far.

I'm interested in folk's opinions about my "link sausage" journal entries. (Which, in case you first heard the term here or from someone who copied it from me, I stole from [livejournal.com profile] almeda.) I'm not going to limit who can answer the poll, but I am, of course, most interested in hearing from folks who tend to read my journal at least once in a while, whether you've listed me as a friend or not. (Okay, so that's exactly the group likely to see this poll, but I mention it Just In Case, 'cause one never knows how things are going to wind up propogating. Others should feel free to answer, and I'm interested, but I'm going to pay a little more attention to "my readers".) I've asked for feedback before, and even gotten a couple of useful answers, but this is an attempt to get a few more folks to respond, and to put things up for side-by-side comparison instead of just "hey, is this one cool?"

The Poll (and the rest of the preamble )

I could, of course, ask a lot more questions. And I may do so in the future, but for now I think these are enough to give me an idea how to not annoy my audience away. I still want it to be my journal, not marketing-research-driven play-it-safe stuff, after all. I'm just not as attached to certain presentation details as I am to topic selection, phrasing, opinion, etc.
