From The Story of the Toddler, chapter 7, by Jeff Vogel:

I was truly surprised by how exhausting a week looking after a toddler is. It really made me jealous of women, who are genetically gifted with the ability to tirelessly spend countless hours raising small children without complaint. I am not sure how they do it. I imagine the womb secretes some sort of strengthening chemical. I feel that the right to vote is too small a price to pay for their invaluable assistance in this regard.

When I expressed these sentiments to my wife, however, she used her Tae Kwon Do training to do something to my wrist which was actually quite painful. I am not sure why she did this. I believe that her natural womanly modesty made her uncomfortable to be complimented in such a way. From now on, I will be sure to admire her silently, trying to keep at least a yard between me and her at all times.

And one I wanted to add because it came up in the comments to someone else's journal entry: For sliding down a snowy hill, what counts as a "sled"?my answer )

There are women on television I look at and think, "Hey, she's cute. I wonder whether the actress portraying her is as much fun to hang out with as the character would be?" And there are women on television I look at and think, "Hmm... Just give me an excuse to stare for a while..." And there are women I see who remind me strongly of someone I know in person and have a crush on. And an actress or two who make me think, "Hey, it'd be fun to while away a couple of hours flirting with her." And once in a while, there will be a woman on television who takes my breath away for just a moment. (That's something I experience more often in person than via television; either I've got non-standard tastes or the circle of people I bump into has more than its share of beauties ... and my guess is that it's a little of both.)

And then there's Zuleikha Robinson, who played Yves Harlow on The Lone Gunmen. My reaction to her is a strong, gut-level, "I want to look like her." *sigh*
