There are women on television I look at and think, "Hey, she's cute. I wonder whether the actress portraying her is as much fun to hang out with as the character would be?" And there are women on television I look at and think, "Hmm... Just give me an excuse to stare for a while..." And there are women I see who remind me strongly of someone I know in person and have a crush on. And an actress or two who make me think, "Hey, it'd be fun to while away a couple of hours flirting with her." And once in a while, there will be a woman on television who takes my breath away for just a moment. (That's something I experience more often in person than via television; either I've got non-standard tastes or the circle of people I bump into has more than its share of beauties ... and my guess is that it's a little of both.)

And then there's Zuleikha Robinson, who played Yves Harlow on The Lone Gunmen. My reaction to her is a strong, gut-level, "I want to look like her." *sigh*

In addition to the possibilities you mention, on why people take your breath away more often in person than on television, it occurs to me that you might be reacting to smell, which television doesn't transmit.

Yeah, that's one. But in addition, it's often peoples' interactions with me that does something to me -- someone I might think looks nice in pix or a vid, but am not *oh!* over, I might react to quite differently if I see a sparkle in their eyes when they're looking at me, or even if they're not looking at me that way -- people just seem so much more alive and vibrant in person. :-) I'm a bit detached a fair bit of the time, but facetime interactions can overcome that. I've especially been surprised that way (surprised by attraction to folks) while dancing.

I clicked the comments link to say something like that, but you said it so well I'll just leave quietly now. :)

Then that beard has *got* to go. :-)

Remember Morticia Addams from the _old_ TV show 'The Addams Family'? When I was young I wanted to look like her.

Then I grew up and wanted to look like Carly Simon.

*sigh*

Now I just look like me.
