[Responses to replies to my last real entry ... coming soon, I think. Been reading and appreciating; haven't had time to sit down and respond. Also coming: an update on how the trip is going and how things are working out w/ Mom.]

I composed this with one friend especially in mind, but other friends and relatives on my mind as well. Now, with (last I heard) one friend recovering from a risky surgery and another facing a dangerous treatment, not to mention people farther removed from me ... it seems like a good time to get around to posting this here.

Fuck cancer.

(This is the octave I meant it to sound in. I've also got a version written for guitarists -- notated an octave higher, on the treble staff with ledger lines, and sounding these pitches when played on guitar -- and one transposed up to fit on a violin. Also tablature for a few different instruments. If a different version would work better for you, ask whether I've got it handy.)

Got halfway through sight-singing it before realizing...that's bass clef...this is rather sadder than I was making it out to be.

I started writing it slow and mournful, but partway through it seemed to want to go faster so I sped the whole thing up. Think "grimly defiant".

Since I can't sight-read for beans, and haven't regularly played an instrument since high school, might you record and upload a rendition of this?

I brought a mic-to-USB thingie but I haven't found a guitar to rent in Cyprus yet; if I get ahold of one, I'll record/post it from here, and if not then I'll do so after I get home (early May). It doesn't quite work right on the banjo, I think.

I finally got around to recording an MP3: http://www.dglenn.org/music/Eff_the_Big_C.mp3

It's a bit sloppy ... partly because I was having a rough day body-wise, partly because I ran out of disk space to keep working on it. But at least it's there. :-)

I would like the treble clef version, please.

I'll probably have Internet access Tuesday night - I'll try to put up a treble version then. You want the guitar version ( reaches E below the staff, so plenty of ledger lines) or the transposed-up-for-violin (and flute) version?
