I gradually woke from a dream that had something to do with extraterrestrials having revealed themselves to human political leaders for millennia, the earliest example in the dream being Julius Ceaser. While one of the main characters in the dream was pointing out a phrasing shift in Abraham Lincoln's writings that suggested the date on which the space aliens had revealed themselves to him, I remember telling myself, "I have to look up whether such a phrasing change in Lincoln's writings really exists when I wake up, in case I want to exploit it as a plot device in a science fiction story sometime, because it's a cute detail." I'm not sure at what point I became aware I was asleep; I don't remember having realized it was a dream before I made that mental note, and the dream continued for a little while after that.

(The shift had to do with pronoun usage or some other subtle clue indicating the he was speaking on behalf of more than just himself and the US government, and/or that he was speaking based on knowledge obtained from secret, non-human sources. Having woken up, I'm guessing that no such conspiracy-theory evidence exists in Lincoln's writings, but maybe I could bluff my way past the audience's suspension-of-disbelief with it anyhow by counting on them not to stop reading the story or watching the movie or whatever to STFW to check?)
