[At a Chuck E. Cheese ball pit:] "The two other boys were almost stepping rather than jumping, hesitantly extending one foot in little more than a 'giant step.' Hooper, on the other hand, was flinging himself off the edge, arms and legs spread wide like -- well, I was going to say like a paratrooper making his 50th jump, which is technically accurate but doesn't begin to capture the sense of joy his posture so clearly radiated. It was as if he was flinging himself into an ocean of happiness, and he had his arms and legs spread wide as if to cover as much of it as he could with his body and so bring it into himself.
"He is still years away from learning about Bernoulli's Principle and the concepts of lift and drag. But my son already knows how to fly."
