I did not manage to get to Balticon. I did get ferried out to a friend's house to work on a couple of songs (and got fed dinner). Despite being a little brain-fried due to poor sleep last night. At one point I grabbed the most convenient-seeming bass, a fretless acoustic bass guitar[*], to tinker with a bass line, and thought I must be way more tired than I'd realized because I kept losing track of which string I was on.
Then I finally remembered that Emory has a five-string fretless acoustic bass guitar. I looked at the headstock, and sure enough, there were five tuners. I looked down at the (very fancy) fingerboard, and sure enough, five strings.
Once I remembered there were five strings on it, not losing my place got a lot easier. But, ah, I guess that little episode did not exactly disprove the "more tired than I'd realized" hypothesis after all, did it?
Very, very tired now.
[*] Actually, I didn't notice the lack of frets either, when I first picked it up, but that was a whole lot less confusing and that detail took far less time to register. So yeah, I must've been awfully tired. Especially since I've played this particular bass guitar before, several months ago.
