[When was the last time you made sure your user-profile was up to date? Today is National Update Your Damn Profile Day.]

"[...] Hence my proposal for a modern universal Rite of Passage. What we need our children to prove, upon recognition of adulthood, is not their prowess in battle or the hunt, not their virility, not their adeptness at social maneuvering, but their ability to contribute meaningfully to society by teaching another member of the community, from level 0, how to do something that is both difficult and absolutely neccessary in our society today. By requiring our children to teach some other person, child or adult, a needed life skill, over the course of about a year, this pre-adult shows persistence, perseverence, discernment, and of course, the key skill in question." -- [info] shirad, 2013-02-27

Okay, profile updated. Copying the old one out to a text editor and tweaking it took a few minutes. Copying it back to Dreamwidth took a few seconds. Copying it to Blurty, IJ, DJ, JF, Scribbld, and LJ took several more minutes, mostly for logging into each site and making tiny site-specific edits for a couple of 'em. Twitter, another couple of seconds. Facebook ... oy vey. Hours, literally hours, most of which was spent working in other windows while waiting for the FB user interface to catch up to my last few keystrokes, and most of the keystrokes were for undoing the crap FB had done to what I pasted when I pasted it.

Now to try to find my Linkedin password, and see what I currently have in my profile on Flickr, Shutterchance, DKos (I think I have a login there), Pinterest, HuffPo (I don't remember whether I have a login there or not), Slashdot ... come to think of it, maybe I'd better just go through my passwords file to look up all the places I might have a profile that I've completely forgotten about!

(One of the things I really like about OpenID is that instead of creating a new account, new login, new password, new profile to keep updated, new message board to remember to check, etc., I can just say, "I'm me from over there," and not have to worry about a New Identity just to visit a new place.)
