Dog whistles. I didn't see anyone say "states rights" about Massachusetts v. United States, which cited the Tenth Amendment to say Congress didn't get to tell Massachusetts that same-sex marriages in the commonwealth didn't count under federal law. (I almost wish they had used that phrase, it might have made a few bigots' heads explode.)
