Hee! This is cute, but I'd say that writers write because it IS there -- it's there inside our heads, and we have to get it out of our heads and onto paper (or the electronic equivalent), where it can be real(er).

I still like the original because it's still cute (as you said), but you're right about the quotation not being correct. I've often described a certain kind of mental pressure thus: "There's this thing growing in my head and I need to get it out, onto paper or into a computer or something." 'Cause at a certain point, that's exactly how it feels, and having responsibilities and commitments and distractions and migraines keep me from getting it out eventually makes it feel like an almost physical pressure. It's not "out" until I can show it to people or play it for people.
