same here. hate the new lj cuts. especially for short entries like the above. LJ cut asks me to navigate away from the page in order to even figure out whether I MIGHT wish to read what's written.
Can the qotd at least be not cut? And something more than JUST the cut for the longer entries? Not to be cold about it, dglenn, but over time if it stays as just cuts I'm going to lose track of you.
It's because dglenn is being a clever busybee trying to get all the different journals written on LJ's codebase to collaborate in simultaneously publishing his entries because LJ is corporate and evil and may have to be ditched at any moment!
No, that's not it -- it was actually much easier to post full entries everywhere simultaneously; that's just a 'foreach' loop in csh (though I never did get around to finding a way to make editing all the copies of an entry at once less tedious). Doing the fake-cut-tag thing meant a bunch of extra code (and adding bits to the QotD queue file).
The problem is that with the most recent changes SUP/LJ imposed, I am no longer willing to have the LJ copy of my journal be the 'front door', nor to have my entries be used by LJ to sell advertising. And, alas, I have not yet figured out any way to remedy that which does not also inconvenience my LJ-friends at least as much as this method does. :-( :-(
A full explanation will be posted soon -- without the cut-tag/fake-cut. I've written the first draft and need to step away from it for a little while then come back and reread it; I'll decide what edits it needs after breakfast, and post it sometime today.
So yeah, on the "LJ is corporate and evil" thing, but nope on the tense -- it's because the day I dreaded has already come, rather than that it may. I'm really not happy about this myself. I'd hoped and hoped that SUP would convince me to trust them enough to start giving them money again, instead of chasing me off. But maybe someone will come up with an approach I haven't thought of yet.
Full explanation coming soon (I've written a first draft; it got kinda long), and that will be posted w/o the cut.
I don't like this either (and I know I'll lose readers over it, including personal friends, which make it all suck that much more), but put-up-or-shut-up day came, when I had to tell LJ either, "Okay, you may as well be a monopoly, I didn't mean anything I wrote and you can do whatever you want to me," or "I'm taking my content and going elsewhere; I explained why this would be unacceptable before you did it". I am not happy.
I'll try to at least come up with more useful cut tags.

Am I right? If so, yeah, cut it out ;)
