'Please, how much further is it to the Town Hall?' one red-faced woman, struggling under the burden of her absurdly large flag, asked me - seemingly oblivious to the red string on my right wrist. I've been to Hillsborough several times; one of my sisters used to live there. Sadly, she's pro-Confederate flag. It's good to know Hillsborough has a proud tradition of resisting the Confederacy. I've been aware of NC mountain folk resistance to Conferacy conscription for quite some time, but didn't know how much it was also true further east.
