I have used shower set-ups like that, off and on, and I do not think they were ever designed to last for the long decades in which they are actually used. They're not the best-designed things. What I would suggest as research is checking out half.com online, and similar places, and seeing what they have available; also, there should be some sort of online hardware store where you can research to get the exact names of the parts you want to replace if you don't want to replace everything.
And I love the shower curtain dearly. It is wonderful.
