I remember shocking a female friend -- this would have been in the early 90's, I think -- when I described men as fellow victims of a sexist society. She was surprised, so I started pointing out all of the things that are anywhere from discouraged to forbidden for men in our society, and she said, "But they have all the money and power!" I pointed out that seeing money and power as uniquely valuable -- more valuable than the ability to feel one's true emotions, for example -- was something that a sexist society had taught us. It's true that women are systematically deprived of money and power and that this is wrong; it's just that this isn't the ONLY wrong that a sexist society perpetrates. Yep, shocked her good. :-)
