It's very depressing what diseases can do to people's nervous systems. There's a case closer to home; a filk singer-songwriter who created some well-known songs has lost the ability even to appreciate music due to a long-term degenerative disease. I'm not 100% sure my information on this is correct, so I'm leaving out the name rather than start a false rumor, but you may know who I mean. Feel free to mention the name if you're sure.
