A nice metaphor, but it made me think immediately of grafted citrus: those oranges in my kitchen were most likely grown on a lemon rootstock, and if I plant a seed from a lime what comes up is as likely to be a lemon or kumquat or tangerine as another lime.

Um, no.

Ascribing human motivations to plants is nothign short of absurd. Doesn't even work as metaphor.
