absolutely does count.

interesting spin on the "at some point your parent picked you up, put you down for the last time" trope. hits quite differently.

Yeah, I think it does. Why not, I can't even consider. And how Mountain Dew could be related to sadness, I don't know either. (Yeah, extreme, not sad.)
