Yes. Also, context: "gay pride" as a phrasing and context comes out of the same time and political culture that contained "say it now and say it loud, I'm Black and I'm proud." It's not "proud" the way someone might be proud of winning a marathon or being valedictorian, it's "I am not ashamed of this, being black and/or gay does not make me inferior to you."
