I'm so tired of the *system failure* framing & language that is applied to every single OPPRESSIVE institution in this country. ICE is not a *system failure.* It's an institution that was created to do EXACTLY what it's currently doing. CRITICS OF ICE existed before its creation. People have to STOP acting like the architects of these policies 'just didn't know better' or 'couldn't predict the consequences' of their actions and decisions. Well, the whole point of ICE is to keep "undesirables" out, where who's defined as undesirable will depend on the political winds of the moment.

And since it's working specifically with non-citizens, their treatment of immigrants will depend completely on how seriously the folks at the top take *human* rights -- not the "rights of an American citizen", but the rights of any human including the ones who can't provide votes or campaign money.

... not exactly. For example, ice is also involved in International Las enforcement and anti trafficking efforts. Granted, this is also why a bunch of ice investigation folks wrote a letter asking for ice to be split. Personally I think we should move back to ins as it's own entity.
