Our country was born rife with internal contradiction. The first abolitionist society was founded before the revolution. Half the states had eliminated slavery in the first 50 years.

Yes, "our country was born rife with internal contradiction," is a more accurate statement. But the economic foundations relying on slavery are still visible.
