Well, crap. My mandolin broke. On the tuner for 7th string, the little plastic bit you grab with your thumb and forefinger has stripped so that turning it no longer turns the metal bits of the tuner. :-( This mandolin uses strip-of-four tuning machines, so unless I can find a compatible worm-gear+knob salvaged from a dead mandolin in my parts bin, I'm going to have to replace the whole strip on that side. *grumble* (Or ... I can tune the other strings to that one (it's currently low by a diminished fifth, so if I tune everything else down by a semitone, the first three courses will be unison as usual and the fourth course will play a fourth. Hmm. Might lead to some interesting composition ideas, but not the most useful configuration in general. Okay, off to search the parts bin.)
