One thing I saw on the news in the mid-1990's was an investment banker pleading poverty -- on a salary of $600K. And he really meant it. Here he was on national television, telling people about the travails of keeping a nice apartment on the upper East side, keeping his kids in the good schools, and keeping up the payments on both the Mercedes *and* the Porsche, and how if he didn't get his tax cuts he wouldn't *sob* be able to cover it all.
To get to the point where you *really* don't have to worry about money, you don't have to be Jeff Bezos, but you do have to be up in Koch brothers territory. Mere millionaires can figure out how to be poor nearly as easily as we can.
