"There should be a hotline you can call where you can safely pronounce words you've only ever read out loud for the first time, and they say 'oh sweetie' and kindly explain how it's pronounced." potch (@potch), 2019-04-05

[Note that some dictionary websites do have pronunciation samples (i.e. audio snippets, not just the written-out pronunciation) ... but not all of them are as reliable as one would hope.]

As someone who constantly mispronounces words I learned from reading, I could use that. BUT, my sweetie told me something the other day that made me feel better, which was that my doing so demonstrates that I *am* learning by reading. *beams*

Very occasionally Wikipedia has been known to have audio snippets for pronunciation purposes - such as "Eyjafjallajökull" - but it's far from consistent.

Oh, yes! Ordinary words I *might* be able to find in the right online dictionary, but *names*... I get the vast majority of my news in writing, not through audio, and this can lead to problems sometimes. :-(
