"2020 is a week away and I am devastated that the start of the decade will be marked by an influx of bills in state legislatures that seek to hurt trans kids.

"From barring participation in sports to barring health care to barring restroom access these cruel measures seek to accomplish one thing: to stop transness. But our existence cannot be stopped. Laws cannot erase or ban us. We are not a contagion.

"We are a beautiful part of humanity with a long and rich history that will keep building and growing. The fear that feeds these attacks will not be the final word in our beautiful stories.

"So many awful things will be said about us. Some of the bills may become laws. More people will die cruel & senseless deaths. And still we will wake up each day fighting for the truth that we exist and that our existence threatens no one but the dangerous & oppressive status quo."
