If you're not taking a ferry, the shortest walking route from the Hyatt downtown requires a 7.2 mile walk through Charlestown, Everett, Chelsea, and East Boston.

All the harbor crossings and nearer river crossing routes are freeway tunnels or bridges with no pedestrian access, so you have to cross the Charles River, then go upstream on the Mystic River since you can't use the Tobin Bridge, finishing by circling around to the drawbridge over Chelsea Creek.

finishing by circling around to the drawbridge over Chelsea Creek.

If one is even willing to walk across the McArdle bridge. This is the most terrifying pedestrian crossing I have ever encountered.

Aaaaaaaand googling to make sure I was spelling that correctly, I just discovered [W]
According to the U.S. Federal Highway Administration 2017 National Bridge Inventory, the bridge structure's condition is poor and is "[b]asically intolerable requiring high priority of replacement."[1]
The wikipedia article says nothing about that poor woman who was killed.

Isn't there another bridge, up towards Belle Marsh?
