"Well you walk into a restaurant all strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you're shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you, but you just want to explode

Most times you can't hear 'em talk, other times you can
All the same old clichés, is it woman is it man?
You always seem outnumbered, so you don't dare make a stand"

  -- Bob Seger (b. 1945-05-06), "Turn the Page", 1972 (released in 1973)

A song that's older than I thought.

Also, reminding me of Bruce Cockburn's "Pacing the Cage"...similar themes...

I used to run Seger's back to back with Jackson Browne's 'The Load-out/Stay' to mess with people, see who caught it.

Is it terrible if I didn't mind the Metallica cover all that much?

It's the only version I've known to listen to so far. I should look into other performances.

I was wrong to write that.

The first sentence in particular was my mistake. Listening to other versions wasn't.

The original and the Metallica version are both favorites.
