"One wonders whether, about 30 years after the American Revolution, surviving Loyalists would've been allowed to erect #statues of Benedict Arnold as a "tribute" to their "heritage" supporting George III instead of their country. One further wonders why any reasonably patriotic U.S. citizen would be upset, generations later, when the traitor's #statues were pulled down." -- Bryce Wray ([twitter.com profile] BryceWrayTX), 2020-07-05

Since there is a monument to Arnold that specifically leaves out his name and represents only his injured foot commemorating his deeds before his betrayal, presumably a carving of whatever body part Robert E. Lee injured at the Battle of Chapultepec would be a suitable replacement for his statues.

Thanks, I was hoping someone mentioned that. I told my son about it just the other day.
