"500k people at time of writing have seen me yell about something, and not one person has questioned my (lack of) professional expertise or been shitty to me.

"Because that only happens to women and PoC who have the nerve to be experts in something.

"Meanwhile, [twitter.com profile] erinbiba writes a science piece about lions, INTERVIEWING THE FOREMOST BIOLOGIST WHO STUDIES THEM, and has weeks of reply guys telling her she's full of shit.

"And if you don't know to look for it, you'd never see it.

"That's how invisible privilege works."

I was curious and went looking for the article about lions, to see what, if anything, someone managed to find displeasing enough to be uncivil to the author.

Following the erinbiba link lead me to this:

It's estimated that 40 percent of slave owners may have been white women.

There seems to be interesting connections with these, but, at the moment, not readily obvious.

Entitlement, in any of it's forms needs be called out.

I'm not sure what your point is here, and at first glance it seems like whataboutism. Yeah, white women owned slaves, of course. I'm surprised the number was that high, but not shocked. But how do you get from "a man goes on a popular-biology spree as an amateur and gets treated like an expert while a woman interviewing the foremost expert in a subject gets told she doesn't know what she's talking about," to "yeah, well a lot of slave-owners were women"?

But I hope you knew that.
