Because I saw [info] - personal gingicat do it and it seemed like an interesting exercise ...

Each song title must contain the item listed, no Googling, no kids songs.

A Place: Benson Arizona
A Food: Cheesburger in Paradise (Jimmy Buffet)
A Drink: Garnet's Homemade Beer (parody of Stan Rogers' "Barrett's Privateers")
Animal: I Am A Cat (Shonen Knife)
A Number: Love Potion Number 9
Color: Orange Colored Sky
Boy's Name: Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner (Warren Zevon)
Girl's Name: Layla (Eric Clapton)
Profession: Lawyers, Guns, & Money (Warren Zevon)
A Vehicle: Brand New Cadillac (The Clash?)

These are largely based on what I could remember & be sure I had the right titles for, but I do like all of them. I think all but two are on my iPad (I'll check later). Though after the images from the past week, I'm not sure I'll think of "Orange Colored Sky" quite the same way again. Also, I was tempted to use "Saintë Nicholas" by St. Godric instead of "Roland", just because I didn't have any early-music on the list, but I couldn't remember whether there was an 'e' on the end of 'saint' or not in the 12th Century. (I looked it up in the liner notes for a Sequentia CD but I figure that counts the same as Googling so I waited until I'd filled in all my answers first.)

Saintë Nicholas, Godes druð
tymbre us faiërë scoonë hus.
At þi burðë, at þi barë,
Saintë Nicholas, bring us wel þarë.

I had to change a couple because I wasn't sure whether what I was remembering was the actual title or just a key line from the chorus, and, well, no Googling. Otherwise I would have used "Hot Peanuts" and either "A Bicycle Built For Two" or "867-5309". And now having filled in my answers, I'm going to look up the writers or recording artists for the ones I coudn't remember that info for: Benson Arizona -- Dominik Hauser (but of course I know it from Dark Star); Orange Colored Sky -- Nat King Cole; Garnet's Homemade Beer -- Ian Robb (Garnet is Stan Rogers' brother); Love Potion No. 9 -- The Searchers; Brand New Cadillac -- I was right, this is The Clash and I should have been more sure of that since it's on London Calling.

Yeah, I also discarded ones where I couldn't recall the exact title. Good choices!

Benson Arizona is from the movie “Dark Star,” right? The one with a talking bomb?

I think it predates Dark Star, but yeah, that's where I know it from.

One of the first things I saw when I got to the University of Dallas my freshman year was graffiti that said, "Welcome to UD, home of the fighting phenomenologists". Years later when I saw Dark Star for the first time, I nearly fell out of my chair giggling at the line, "Teach it ... phenomenology."
