[After being asked whether the folks in The Lincoln Project have a party to go back to after the election] "There's no home to go to. The Republican party was fucking Alderaan -- it's gone; there's no planet there any more, it's just Trump now. [...] It is completely broken, there's no ideological predicate underneath Republicanism now." -- Rick Wilson ([twitter.com profile] TheRickWilson), interviewed on Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air, 2020-10-10 (0:46:56 - 0:47:20)

Rick W. seems to 'get it.'
First: Accurately identify the problem:
    "They're not evil because they're 'Republican',
      they're 'Republican' because they're evil.
Second: Identify the goal wished for:
    Perhaps: Live up to oft-lauded ideals like honesty, equality, fair play for all and humbleness.
Third: Figure out the path to those ideals.
    Baby steps beat no steps.
      Don't allow the "perfect" to be the enemy of the good.

"They may not be friends, but that does not make them an enemy."

Yeah, Lincoln project certainly seems committed to also getting rid of complicit senators. I figured they're temporary allies not friends, and will very much be opposition by 2024.

That said, the fact Wilson made that analogy does make me squee.

Hello
I keep advising that conservatives are not our enemy. We need conservatives to balance liberals. I'm not all that sure what a progressive actually is. Something like a leftie Libertarian?
Be that as it may, conservatives and liberals are properly allies and things can go very well when and if they work together.
For the moment, from what i'm seeing, i suggest that the Lincoln Project people are committed conservatives who (finally? belatedly?) realized their Republican party needed a kick in the.... and are trying to do that.
And now, they're working toward the same goal, at least for the moment, of deposing our dictator wannabe.

I'd say that's mostly right, but it is worth remembering that a lot of them were working with the Bush administration as many of the foundations for where we are now were laid.

True.

Forgive - Forget
The stupid neither forgive nor forget;
the naive forgive and forget;
the wise forgive but do not forget.

Only time will tell us if the Lincoln people have learned from their past mistakes.
I suspect that they somewhat may have. In any case, what they're doing just now is in accord with what we need done.

I'd agree with that. They're definitely committed to also changing the Senate. I periodically see people be like oh no don't give money to the Lincoln project because they're these people and I generally respond that my enemy's enemy is my current ally and Lincoln project is able to run ads that Biden cannot and that would seem to be a good reason not to complain about people giving them money.
