If there's one thing the Harper years taught me, it's that politics isn't boring and can't be ignored.

Agree, politics isn't boring....
      ... to those who pay attention and strive to understand.
The thing is, there's no visual swords...
      ... they want body slams and choke holds.
      ... Easy to see and understand violence.
      ... See: pro "wrestling" and the like.

Politics in a working democracy is just "family dynamics" writ large.
