"here's to the people who's trauma did not give them thick skin. the ones who became more sensitive and insecure, who cry more easily, who get overwhelmed at small things. i'm so tired of the narrative that trauma makes you tough and untouchable. we're survivors, not superheroes." -- jules rylan ([twitter.com profile] radiantbutch), 2021-01-04

I hear what jules rylan is saying.

People are different: some react one way, others react much the opposite way, and even others react somewhere between any possible end points... and even outside/off the line.

Then there are those who rather enjoy trauma: they accept the challenge. They aren't made tough or 'thick skinned.' It's just what they're made for. They have a motto: "shit happens".
But they are still moved by, and even cry, because of the small things.

People are fond of quoting, "That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger," which is a load of bullshit. Stuff that doesn't kill you usually injures or even maims you, and nobody thinks being injured or maimed strengthens a person.

Yes. If I were a superhero, though, I’d spread out that “thick skin” to cover a lot more people. How, though? I’d be a superhero, not an engineer!
