[From when conservatives argued more about gay rights than trans rights (not that long ago) ...]

"Still the question remains: How does a Christian population implicated in militarism, usury, sweatshop labor, and environmental rape find a way to sleep at night? Apparently, by making a very big deal out of not sleeping with Gene Robinson. Or, on the flip side, by making approval of Gene Robinson the litmus test of progressive integrity, a stance that I have good reason to believe would impress no one so little as Gene Robinson himself." -- Garret Keizer, "Turning away from Jesus: Gay rights and the war for the Episcopal Church", Harper's Magazine, June 2008

Isn't the consensus that the current conservative strategy is trying to divide and conquer by wedging off trans people from the Alphabet Soup Coalition, and then they'll keep slicing after that?

and oh my this quotation resonates with me. I still remember when it was carefully explained to me why homosexuality was worse than murder (though fortunately I've forgotten the explanation).

Well, if they can get everyone to go back to having super rigid binary definitions of what is a man and what is a woman, it's an easy step to wall off more and more behaviors for either, including "effeminacy" for men, interest in computers for women, and defining "proper" relations between them. Awful and sickening.

Just as back before my time, we were all "inverts", and gay/trans were considered different manifestations of the same 'pathology'. So really not a huge step for them to go there.
