"When a person, organization, or government opposes the full equality of queer people, they create a gulf between themselves and me. If there is division when queers come out or speak up, we do not create it; we simply bring attention to the division which is already there, a division we did not create.

"I am no longer a member of the church I grew up in. Though the process of separating myself from my church was painful at the time, it was inevitable. My church had cut me out of its body long before I came out."

-- Brian G. Murphy (QTheology), "Division & Solidarity: A letter to straight allies", Queer Theology [emphasis present in original text]

“I am asking that you leave the places which divide and join the places which empower. In essence, I am asking you to be the change you wish to see in the world; which, of course, is not a new idea at all.”

Reading this and other things with similar ideas, I would like to be able to do something with this. (Not saying “I would love to help” because that has a but-I’m-giving-up-before-I-start feeling to it.) I’m not in a church myself, though. No dis/respect to anyone who attends church for fellowship, ‘cause I *get* that, but being an atheist, I’m not the church-going type.

Just wanted to let you know that the things you post here are read and thought on.

This is 1) true and 2) makes me think about how our society localizes the "problem" any group faces with that group. It isn't that women face sexism from sexist people and systems but that by being women we make our lives more difficult. It isn't that racism, both personal and systemic, hurts POC, but that we carry problematic-ness around with us. And so on.
